New York Dolls, the fashionable and widely influential protopunk American rockers, have just released their fifth studio album called “Dancing Backwards in High Heels,” available as of March 14, and are touring the UK with it. To go along with the album, they have also just unveiled a music video for the single “Fool For You,” available on YouTube. It features the band in a circus tent displaying their various three-ring skills and that deep, guttural glam punk sound that influenced bands like the Ramones, Blondie and Talking Heads. Watch it here.
Exciting updates about their UK tour: Legendary guitarist Earl Slick, best known for his spectacular guitar work on David Bowie’s albums David Live (1974), Young Americans (1975) and Station To Station (1976), has officially joined the New York Dolls as their new guitarist on their forthcoming UK tour dates. The Dolls will perform concerts at the O2 Newcastle Academy on Sun. Mar. 27 and the Manchester Club Academy on Tues. Mar. 29.
They have also announced two truly “underground” London concerts at the Old Vic Tunnels on Wed. Mar. 30 and Thur. Mar. 31. They will be intimate shows of 500 in what is described as a network of Victorian red brick tunnels.
Kevin Spacey, Academy Award winning actor and artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theater, said, "I'm excited that the Old Vic Tunnels are becoming a cool new scene for live performance. The New York Dolls inspired the punk movement, so they are the perfect fit of glam and anarchy to launch our live music series under Waterloo Station.” Visit their website for more information about tickets and dates or go to http://www.mofman.com/.
