The Chemical Brothers Release Soundtrack to "Hanna" + Free Download

By Nancy Woo

The Chemical Brothers, a force to be reckoned with in the world of electronic music, has released their original soundtrack for the action-thriller movie Hanna. The soundtrack, like the film, is dark yet somehow radiant, taking on the persona of the film's protagonist Hanna, a teenage girl acting as a warrior in a world she barely knows.

Here is a short synopsis of the film:

Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is a teenage girl. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a soldier; these come from being raised by her father (Eric Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland. Living a life unlike any other teenager, her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin.

The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Cate Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.

It's really a great song, mystical and exciting. It's got that dreamy winter feeling with snow queen vocals, though still rife with tension. Put to film I can imagine it would be even more spectacular. I wouldn't any less from the Chemical Brothers!

Here are some reviews of the soundtrack so far:

"Hanna mostly wins in the sea of Hollywood action soundtracks..." - Pitchfork

"The Chemical Brothers walk a fine line between understated and engaging with their electro-haze soundtrack..." - IGN

"...all the songs on the Hanna OST are quality electronica from one of the genre’s foremost acts." - Consequence Of Sound
